Lefkada is a beautiful island which sits off the west coast of Greece. The island is connected to the mainland by a floating bridge which opens every hour for boats. With so many things to do in Lefkada, whether you prefer beaches, water sports, swimming and sunbathing or a more cultural scene, Lefkada has it all.
Picturesque Lefkada Town has museums and churches as well as shopping, restaurants and bars. The unique Phonograph Folk Museum is filled with old music machines and is fascinating to see. The Archaeological Museum is small but packed with ancient artifacts. There is also a Cultural Centre with an art gallery which is worth a visit.
Nidri on the East coast is a wonderful place to stay with a beautiful promenade, restaurants, bars and boat trips. The bustling nightlife is a big attraction for visitors who prefer a lively holiday.
The famous beaches of Lefkada, Porto Katsiki and Egremni are several kilometres away from the town. Porto Katsiki is to the south west and is situated at the foot of a cliff. Famed for crystal clear waters, the beach gets busy during the summer season but is well worth a visit for the stunning backdrop.
Egremni is one of the most photographed beaches in Greece and is 2.5 kilometres long and less crowded. If you prefer a quieter environment you can opt for somewhere like Kalamitsi Beach which is partially organised but with many spots where you can be totally alone.
Eating out in Greece is always a pleasure with fresh fish and seafood a popular choice. In the towns, restaurants with sea views offer a wide choice of cuisine. Smaller villages have local tavernas serving traditional Greek food with some local specialities like sweet and sour veal.
