Known as one of the top beaches in Greece, Elafonissi Beach in Crete has unique pink sands and clear turquoise waters.
The beach is an island with the water in between forming a warm lagoon so it is ideal for swimming. The water does not get very deep so you can easily wade out to the island which is also a protected nature reserve.
Home to the loggerhead turtle and rare plants, this beautiful beach is also an ideal place for evenings when you can view some spectacular sunsets over the sea. If you prefer a sandy beach you will be enchanted with the soft pink sand that is a feature of Elafonissi.
The prevailing winds also make this area the perfect spot for windsurfers but these are generally further away from the main area where families go to relax and sunbathe.
There are plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas and two beach bars where you can get a snack and drink whilst enjoying your day at the beach. Nearby there is also a mini market for any essentials you may have forgotten.
Situated on the southeast coast of Crete, the beach is around 75 kilometres from Chania and can be reached by car. It is close to the picturesque Chrisoskalitissa monastery and is 62 kilometres from Chania airport.
