Fokia Beach Karpathos

Fokia Beach Karpathos is one of the most peaceful and secluded coves on the island, located at the southernmost end of the Amoopi area. This hidden gem is perfect for travellers looking for raw natural beauty, quiet surroundings and crystal-clear waters far from the more developed beaches of Karpathos. With its vivid turquoise sea, dramatic low cliffs and sense of total calm, Fokia Beach is the ideal escape for those seeking a more authentic coastline experience.

The cove is small, intimate and beautifully unspoilt. The combination of pebbles, rocks and large stones creates exceptional underwater visibility, making it a wonderful choice for snorkellers and anyone who enjoys exploring marine life. Because the seabed is rocky in parts, visitors often bring water shoes for easier entry into the water, especially during times when the sea is slightly wavy.

A Quiet and Relaxing Escape

Fokia Beach Karpathos is only partly organised, with a limited number of sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire. There are no beach bars, restaurants or shops here, which helps preserve its tranquil atmosphere. This lack of facilities is what many travellers find so appealing — you can enjoy a truly peaceful day by the sea without crowds, noise or commercial activity. Pack your own water, snacks and essentials and settle in for a relaxed afternoon surrounded by nature.

The cove’s location among low cliffs adds to the sense of privacy and shelter. The cliffs protect the beach from stronger winds, making the water calmer and more comfortable for swimming compared to other exposed areas of the island. The scenery is picturesque throughout the day, with the water reflecting different shades of blue as the sun moves across the sky.

Perfect for Swimming & Snorkelling

Thanks to the clarity of the water and the rocky seabed, Fokia Beach Karpathos is especially popular with snorkelling enthusiasts. Colourful fish and interesting rock formations can be found close to shore, creating a peaceful underwater world to explore. The small size of the cove allows swimmers to safely enjoy the calm waters while staying close to the beach.

If you are visiting other beaches in the Amoopi area — such as Megali Amoopi, Kastelia or Votsalakia — Fokia Beach makes a perfect final stop. Its secluded nature and quiet ambience offer a beautiful contrast to the more organised and busier stretches of sand nearby.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Bring water shoes due to the rocky seabed.
  • Carry your own drinks and snacks — no facilities on site.
  • Arrive early if you want one of the limited umbrellas.
  • Ideal for couples, solo travellers and snorkellers.
  • Great to combine with a visit to the other beaches in Amoopi.

Fokia Beach Karpathos remains one of the island’s best-kept secrets — a quiet, natural haven where you can truly disconnect and enjoy the beauty of the Aegean Sea. Whether you stay for a quick swim or spend the entire afternoon unwinding on the smooth pebbles, this charming cove offers a refreshing, tranquil experience set against a gorgeous coastal backdrop.

Fokia Beach Karpathos

Fokia Beach is located approximately 3 kilometres from the central area of Amoopi Village on the southeastern coast of Karpathos. Access is via a narrow, winding road that begins at the first houses of Amoopi and continues down toward the sea.

At the end of the road you will find a small parking area, from where a short walk leads directly to the beach. Although the road is tight in some places, it is accessible for most vehicles, and the beautiful scenery along the way makes the drive enjoyable.
