Set above the modern village rises the Lindos Acropolis, visited by thousands every year and is a must visit when in Rhodes. A natural citadel which was fortified successively by the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Knights of St John and the Ottomans. In classical times the Lindos Acropolis Rhodes was dominated by the massive temple of Athena Lindia, which attained its final form in around 300 BC. The only way to reach the Acropolis is by foot and takes only 20 minutes. Children can take a donkey ride to the top.
